Bushfire Management Statement Mt Martha Mornington Peninsula February 2026
When developing a Bushfire Management Statement for a planning permit application a number of components need to be addressed:
A BAL Assessment is undertaken to ascertain the appropriate construction standard level required of the building given the available setback and defendable space within the property from the Classified Vegetation or the bushfire hazard.
A Bushfire Landscape Assessment shows the bushfire risk in the landscape and informs the key directions a bushfire is likely to approach from.
A Bushfire Management Plan clearly shows the area of defendable space around the building and the vegetation maintenance required, the location of the static water supply, the access and egress from the road to the building and the BAL construction standard. The details on the BMP will form part of the conditions of the planning permit.
A Statement that addresses how the relevant Agreed Measures under the planning provisions such as how the building is designed to be responsive to the bushfire risk, how the risk in the landscape is being mitigated to an acceptable level and the siting of the building etc.
If a building is used for accommodation or is a Place of Assembly the application also requires a Bushfire Emergency Management Plan to be developed.
