Principal and Owner

Victorian Ecosystem Services

Catherine Clancy has an environmental management background and a sound knowledge of vegetation communities and natural resource management. During her 17 years with Department of Environment Land, Water and Planning Catherine developed her community engagement skills with rural communities through drought, fires and floods and has worked to revitalise small rural communities across Gippsland through Agriculture, Cultural Heritage and conservation projects. She also led teams of community engagement facilitators at the state level.

Catherine has 27 year’s experience in fire response, fire planning and engaging communities in fire. She has a solid understanding of fire behaviour from her extensive experience on the fire ground, as Operations Officer and as a level 3 Planner in Incident and Regional Management teams and leading the Situation Unit in the State Control centre.

Catherine has provided evidence for the Victorian Bushfire Royal Commission into the 2009 fires and understands the importance of detailed and accurate record keeping and accountability. Sadly, she has co-ordinated body recoveries and is compassionate with people experiencing loss.

Catherine worked with the CFA and the Fire Services Commissioner for 8 years facilitating risk assessments (ISO31000) and strategic planning across 17 government agencies to reach collaborative agreements and is the co-author/author of many fire management reports. Working for the Fire Services Commissioner she also led the State-wide portfolio of Community Engagement in Fire Management Planning and developed and implemented Community Engagement Project Planning and the associated training with local municipal committees.
