BAL Assessment Rosebud Mornington Peninsula
Undertaking a BAL assessment in the urban development adjoining Goolgowrie Bushland Reserve in Rosebud, Victorian Ecosystem Services surveyed the vegetation along Murray Anderson Creek as it was located within the assessment area.
The riparian vegetation largely consists of tall ( 8-9metres high) Melaleuca Ericifolia (commonly known as Swamp Paperbark) in this wet gully ,with an array of ferns and tree ferns and the occasional Eucalypt.
The stand of Melaleucas form a closed-scrub along the stream flats of this coastal area. Underneath the canopy is very shady and wet. It was hard to imagine the area ever experiencing a bushfire as the fuel moisture content was so high, even knowing the Melaleucas are renowned to burn hot with their inherant levels of Melaleuca oil. Quite a different storey to the Dry Heat Woodland on the hill of Goolgowrie Bushland Reserve.
