BAL Assessment Sorrento Mornington Peninsula
Amongst the Moonahs, sandstone buildings with heritage overlays stand on the cliff tops and undulating sand dunes. The bushfire hazard here is often the compact pockets of Tea Trees and Melaleucas in the gullies and on the sand dunes that dry out quickly because the sandy soil doesn’t hold moisture and burns hot and fast with the oils and the flakey bark that ignites easily.
Moving fast up hill and fanned by the sea breeze, these localised bushfires can travel quickly and before you know it impact on the surrounding houses.
